What is a cookie and what does it do?
Cookies are purely fragments of text, stored in small text files, and cannot access files on your PC or execute programs in any way. They are used simply to store small amounts of information. There are two types of cookies used by web pages - local and server side. The local cookies are set by the web page, but stored on your hard disk, so no information is retained about you on the server. Instead the server requests the information from your browser when you log back on to the page.
